Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. At the age five she moved to Oxfordshire where she studied at The Dragon School. Emma's dream was to become an actor. As a young girl of six, she joined the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch and took lessons in acting, singing and dance. By the time she turned 10, Emma had taken part in numerous Stagecoach productions and plays. The casting process began in 1999 in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been picked for these parts. Emma was chosen to play alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's first cinematic appearance was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. The film set records for beginning-day and weekend-opening sales and was the highest-grossing film of the year 2001. The film was praised by critics who praised the film and particularly the young performers. The Daily Telegraph in Britain that is distributed widely the newspaper, described her performance as outstanding. Emma received five nominations for her outstanding performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actresses of the Film.
